Family FunSpot: Pumpkin Spice Slime

Pumpkin Spice Slime

Pumpkin Spice Slime
11/24/21

What could be more authentically autumn than slime that smells like a fall-flavored latte and feels like the inside of a pumpkin? Kids Quest families, I give you Pumpkin Spice Slime! What a fun way to spend the hours before carving the turkey, digging into the mashed potatoes, and snarfing down the stuffing.

Ingredients

You will need:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Lidded container
  • 10 Ounces of white school glue
  • 10 Ounces of water
  • 3 Drops of orange food coloring
  • 8 Ounces of liquid starch
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice
  • Ziploc bags for storage

Instructions:

Combine the school glue, water, and food coloring

Add the pumpkin spice

Add the starch slowly until it starts to thicken

*If the mixture is too globby add water

*If the mixture is too runny add more starch

Spoon into Ziploc bags and refrigerate for future play—slime lasts for about 7-10 days

This might be a fun one to try again in December with a single drop of yellow food coloring, nutmeg, and vanilla to make it smell like eggnog, and a little micro-glitter to make it festive. Are your kids fascinated by slime? If you have a go-to recipe for the gloopy goopy stuff, please share it with us! You might just be featured in one of our newsletters!

Autumn Wreath

Autumn Wreath
11/17/21

This is a very simple, yet wonderful way to decorate for guests or to have your children carry along as a hostess gift.

Materials

You will need:

  • Sturdy white paper plates—Chinet is a good brand https://bit.ly/3vARBHh
  • Tissue paper in Autumn colors
  • Autumn floral picks from the craft store ($2.00-$2.50 each) plan one per wreath
  • Autumn-colored ribbon
  • Elmer’s glue or Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Hot melt glue gun with low-temp glue sticks
  • Small saucer
  • Tape
  • Pencil
  • Paintbrushes
  • Bowls or paper plates to hold, tissue paper, and floral picks, etc.

Instructions:

Take the small saucer or bowl and place it in the middle of the large paper plate

Trace around the small saucer or bowl

Cut out a slit and cut the center out of the paper plate to create the wreath shape-secure slit with tape

Place pieces of tissue paper and disassembled floral picks on plates

Mix glue and water in a 50/50 ratio and place in a small bowl—or use pre-mixed Mod Podge

Cover the wreath with pieces of overlapping tissue paper, secure it with the glue-water mixture or Mod Podge and let it dry thoroughly

Take the floral pricks apart to get the flowers, leaves, pumpkins, gourds, and other décor ready to be glued on the wreath and assist the children with hot gluing—being in charge of the glue gun at all times

Glue floral elements on the wreath

Cut a piece of ribbon and create a bow

Hot melt or tie the bow onto the wreath

So cute and so easy! Do you decorate for Autumn? If so, post what you use to create the perfect harvest atmosphere!
